Multiliteracies and Education

In this fast paced, dynamic, digital society we live in today, teachers need to approach literacy teaching and learning in a way that encompasses a pedagogy of multiliteracies (New London Group, 1996). Information and Communication Technologies provide students with new ways of consuming and producing information in a multimodal approach (i.e. through text in print documents, video clips, music, sound effects and icons, etc) where more than one mode is used in a text to convey meaning. Students are required to adopt multiple literacies in order to succeed in making meaning of the various modes that information is presented to them in the 21st century.  

The purpose of this blog is to inform pre-service and in-service teachers of some of the aspects of multiliteracies in order to develop their own professional knowledge and skills.
